Here are answers to the most common questions for mediations:
Are you doing remote mediations?
Absolutely, we are using Zoom for secure, private, and effective mediations. See the main Win Win Mediation Group page for details of our related Best Practices.
Who may attend mediation?
Mediation is typically only attended by the named parties and their attorney. Family members and witnesses are discouraged due to space and time restrictions. If an additional person is required who has settlement authority or will earnestly assist with making a decision, they may attend with the representing attorney’s permission.
Are interpreter services available?
Yes, but it may be easier (and possibly less expensive) to bring your own. With advance notice, an interpreter may be made available (for a fee). Most common are Spanish, Chinese, and Vietnamese.
What about telephones and internet?
Of course! Telephones are available in each conference room. Guest access to high speed internet is also available.
Do you have any audio/visual equipment?
Yes, we have telephone conference equipment, a TV monitor, and bulletin boards available for your use. The mediator often makes use of the bulletin board as well. You are welcome to bring other equipment as long as it can be accommodated in a typical conference room. Of course, we also have electrical outlets for your equipment, including for charging your laptop or phone.
May I smoke at the mediation?
Smoking is not permitted inside the building per City Ordinance, but there is a covered smoking area outside between the building entrance and the parking area (>20′ from the entrance).
How may I pay for the mediation?
You may pay anytime in advance of the start of the mediation by Cashier’s Check, law firm or business check, credit card, or cash. We try to make this as easy as possible.
When do your offices open and close?
Approximately 8am – 5:30pm. Arrangements will be made to permit access if the scheduled time for your mediation differs from normal hours.
Where may I park and is it free?
Yes, covered parking is available for your convenience on the first floor of the connected parking garage. Building access is through the corridor in the center of the building with a single glass door to the elevator or the east side of the passageway. Our offices are on the 2nd floor of the building (and access from 3rd floor of the parking garage), then go to your left and near the end of the hallway on the right.
What transportation services are available?
Typical cab, Uber, or other similar services are available.
What refreshments are available during the mediation?
2-Hour and Half Day mediations include sweet, savory, and fresh fruit snacks, brewed and Nespresso coffee, purified water, and a variety of soft drinks. Homemade cookies are also available from time to time! Full day mediations include the above and a lunch, orders to be taken prior to lunch time, so it becomes a “working lunch.”
What office services are available, including a Notary?
Our office assistant will be happy to assist you with copies, scanning, printing, emailing, or faxing documents. We also have a Notary Public if the need arises.
If you are flying in to Houston, which airport is best?
We are located fairly equidistant from both Hobby and Intercontinental airports, however, Hobby may be easier as it is a smaller facility.
What hotels are nearby?
We are conveniently located about 10 minutes from downtown, so any number of downtown hotels are close. For economy, there is a Howard Johnson by Wyndham on I-10 (bn Patterson and No. Shepherd Dr.) <1 mile from our offices, and mid-priced, a Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton on I-10 (at Westcott St.) ~ 2 miles from our offices.
Are there any restaurants nearby?
Yes, there are several good restaurants, both fast and sit down of various cuisines within walking distance, and dozens of great restaurants in the area near our offices and the hotels listed above.
